Brian’s Blog: Pickup Repair of a 1951 DeArmond Pickup

We’ve had a stead stream of pickup rewind and repair projects come in lately, and this most recent one was one of the more interesting projects i’ve done. It’s a 1951 DeArmond sliding pickup that was mounted on a 1950’s Gibson L-4. The customer was local, so I was able to see guitar and the pickup together.

The pickup has a metal casing over it and needed some repair inside it. I carefully pulled off the cover and here’s what I found inside:

Date Stamped September of 1951

The bobbin inside the pickup was made of very this cardboard, and the pickup overall was in pretty good condition. It needed some work on the connections and outside of the coil and it’s back in business. Can’t wait to hear it on the early 50’s gibson.
